Academic Programs

Till 2013, students were admitted in 8- semester B.E. in Mining engineering. From the year 2014, after transformation to IIEST, Shibpur, all the students are admitted in 10-semester Dual Degree B.Tech- M.Tech in Mining Engineering. In addition, the department offers Master of Engineering (M.E.), a Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Geoinformatics and Ph.D programme.

The 10-semester Dual Degree B.Tech- M.Tech Programme in Mining Engineering is oriented towards developing trained professionals in the area of opencast and underground Mining.  Students get admission to the programme after securing ranks in JEE (Main) examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education. A Mining Engineer is believed to be a 'jack of all trade and master of Mining Engineering'. The entire curriculum gives due emphasis to fundamental concepts of science and engineering followed by specialized input of Mining Engineering. The students get adequate hands-on training in the well-equipped laboratories. Furthermore, they work with latest state-of-the-art software in mine planning and rock engineering like SURPAC, MINEX, PHASE, SLIDE etc. 

The students get the opportunity to collaborate with industries and other research organizations during their final year project. Some of them also work in the research team of the faculty members.
